Music Review: The Thunder Saga...
The newest release from EPIC: The Musical...
Introduction…
On July 4th…the newest Saga of EPIC: The Musical was released…I’ve reviewed EPIC on here before…I recommend reading that review for more insight on EPIC as a whole…but I felt the newest Saga deserved a review of its own…y’all can probably expect a review for each of the next sagas as they come out as well…
The Release…
I was quite excited about the new Saga and watched the livestream with one of my good friends and her sister…also a good friend…it was a wonderful experience…there were short animatics and visuals…and the music was AMAZING!!! I may or may not have screamed a couple of times…it was insane…it was fun…but also heartbreaking…due to where the story was going…I almost cried a couple of times…
The Songs…
Since I’m just reviewing one Saga…I can review each song separately…there were five in this Saga…all were magnificent…
Suffering: This was one of two songs that Jorge left unnamed until its release revealing absolutely nothing about it…so it was a huge surprise…It was quite enjoyable…not my favorite…but Odysseus was a little goofy in it and it was awesome…he was also incredibly clever…It was a fun song with fun music…
Different Beast: This was the other song Jorge kept everyone in the dark about…It was shocking and brutal…but the music and the lyrics were fire…it was awesome…hard to see how much Odysseus has changed…but still epic…pun intended…it was likely my favorite song in this Saga…
Scylla: Honestly…it wasn’t my favorite lyrically…the lyrics were really good and quite eerie…but just not the best…musically though…this song was insane!!
Mutiny: I’m actually listening to it as I type this…I enjoyed it…the parallels to past songs are amazing but sad…there’s a crazy plot twist that I was not expecting…but I was really sad too…
Thunder Bringer: Zeus is the worst…I don’t see how anyone worshiped him…that’s all I got…I mean…I almost cried…the emotion y’all…and every time I relisten to it I’m hit in the gut…again!!!
Content Warnings…
For my lovely people who I know want these…so…the violence is pretty brutal…nothing really described…but…still brutal…a lot of death…one minor curse word…kind of…and Zeus…he is a CW in himself…if you know Greek Mythology…you should know what I’m talking about…if not… there are some small allusions to sexual assault…but…it’s Greek Mythology…and it’s Zeus…and it’s used as a metaphor…yeah…this one wasn’t that great in the area of CWs…sorry y’all…
Conclusion…
I loved this Saga…it was likely one of my favorites…incredibly enjoyable…and all I’ve been listening to for the past several days…
P.S. A Poll…
I mentioned in my last post…which I wrote just before this one…that I was going to be doing a lot of reviews and not very many snippets or other things…but…I wanted to know if y’all were particularly eager to see more snippets…if so…I can alternate them…but it’s really up to y’all and y’all’s preferences…
Totally agree, totally agree. "Thunder Bringer" is decidedly one of my favorites (if not my favorite from the Thunder Saga), but explaining it gets... very hard. XD Great review, Susi!!
I just want to say how much I love the fact that you are so passionate about this music! It completely overflows into your reviews! If I was allowed to listen to all genres of music, I probably would listen to this just because of how exuberant you are about it! ❤️
