EPIC: The Musical

Well…I never intended to do music reviews…but life is full of surprises…it’s similar to a book review anyway…so it’s not such a huge deal…(This is how I justify this week’s post…heh)…ANYWAY…If you haven’t heard of it…I’m sure you’re wondering..”What is EPIC?”

“EPIC: The Musical” is a collection of songs being released with the intent of one day maybe becoming an actual musical…it’s a musical rendition of Homer’s The Odyssey…which is the story of Odysseus, King of Ithica, trying to sail home after the Trojan War…EPIC is written by Jorge Rivera-Herrans who also voices Odysseus…auditions for the voices are held on TikTok...

EPIC will be two acts(40 songs) long…On April 26 the last three songs of Act 1 were released…Currently, that is 20 songs split into 5 “Sagas”…The sagas are titled; Troy, Cyclops, Ocean, Circe, and Underworld…

THE REVIEW:

I’ve been listening to EPIC since the middle of last year and have been listening to the three latest sagas as soon as they’ve been released…I LOVE the music…the songs are so fun to sing and cry so much emotion…I loved the Odyssey when I first read it for school…there were a few things I had problems with…and EPIC took those things and chucked them out the window…I have never been more happy about changes in an adaptation than I was with EPIC…I 10/10 recommend listening…It should definitely be listened to in order the first time so you can understand the story…

Another thing I love about it is that the creator is very detailed with the songs…every character has a different musical element…there are little details to the music that foreshadow, reveal, or call back to things in other songs and even other sagas…

The music is truly wonderful in my opinion…and everyone should give it a try…I will provide some Content Warnings for those who want them:

Violence, romantic tension, minor cursing, magic, and typical Greek Mythology god stuff…
