Book Review: The Zheninghai Chronicles Part 3...
Princess of Shadows and Starlight/Captive of Twilight and Treachery/Daughter of Darkness and Dreams
Introduction…
This is the final review of The Zheninghai Chronicles by Anistasis Blythe…This is likely my favorite arc in the series…the books include Princess of Shadows and Starlight, Captive of Twilight and Treachery, and Daughter of Darkness and Dreams…I think the past three books really set up this part and everything finally came together…
The Story…
This part is about Princess Meiling (the daughter of the couple in the first part) who appears to be magicless and Shang, a guard who is enlisted to protect her…of course…chaos ensues…and they’re drawn to each other more than they should be…It’s a story of forbidden romance, honor, secrets, and war…so fun…also there was kinda a concept of “what is lawful vs what is right” and that’s always interesting…
The Characters…
The characters were so very fun…Meiling was very sweet…I feel she was somewhat similar to her mother in that regard…Shang is quite serious and duty-bound…and I think his conflict and character development were done very well…then there’s Fen…Shang’s partner in protecting Meiling…she was also a very interesting character…and of course the PANDA!!! That’s all I’ll say about that…but he was really really cute…
The Romance…
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! Just the slow burn and the “but we can’t” forbiddeness of it…it was wonderful…frustrating at times cuz..”WHY CAN'T YOU TWO JUST LOVE EACH OTHER!?” …but beautiful…I loved it…and the ending was so very sweet…
Extra Comment…
I don’t know where to put this…but Meiling’s parents! Let me just say…I nLOVE it when a character has some good reasonable parents…it makes me so very happy!!!
Content Warnings…
Just copy pasting my CWs from my last review…cuz it’s rly the same…It’s quite clean…the author recommends it for 12+…but the only things are some kissing and violence…it really isn’t intense…
In Conclusion…
Princess of Shadows and Starlight, Captive of Twilight and Treachery, and Daughter of Darkness and Dreams are absolutely beautiful books that are so worth the read…incredibly enjoyable if you want sweet romance and an exciting plot…
